faggots are complex beings
kunsthalle pompeii, 2021, brussels
I unwrap the box and place its contents in front of me. Three little Barbie doll clothes, followed by their human-sized replicas. The miniature garments were found during a walk; reproducing them to my own scale stages the decision to reclaim a childish drive for fantasy and transgression.
Around the clothes and their replicas, various pairs surround me. Between objects, images, bodies and their doubles, something lingers. Suspicious companionships, exhibits of desires in the making. Even the door seems to reflect a question: where will you choose to go? And what will you wear?
Oh, I used to be so, so lonely.
