i was introduced to tattooing a few summers ago (for some reason, transformative experiences seems to always happen to me at that time of the year). someone let three friends doodle on their body at the same time, none of us having held these inked needles in our hands before.
i gradually started after that, designs becoming more colorful and complex as i evolved. there’s an evident link to be made as to how tattooing influenced my drawing practice and vice versa, but it also dripped everywhere. you’ll see traces of it in almost every page of this website.
the body has always been so present in my work, and here so concretely - a forever source of experimentation, experience; artistic, corporeal, political.
through this medium, i’ve strived to celebrate candid emotionality, fun and the fantastic, in the aim of giving people something pleasant to keep with them. i believe in the simplicity of decorating one’s body with nice images. magic creatures, butterflies, hearts, stars, flowers, friends and lovers are recurrent characters of this tattoo gallery.
tattooing is also a practice of intimacy. in so it holds the power for violence, but also for trust and liberation. i strived to welcome tattooees with care, openness, self-criticality and they’ve given back plenty: i met only super gentle, fun, interesting people on my table. (i wonder if the reason for that is a sort of correlation between the visual world i’m offering and the humans attracted to it, i’d be flattered if it was!)
i’ve decided to go on a tattoo hiatus to make place for other experiences + as a way to slowly divest from meta (as instagram is the main platform for working tattooers nowaydays). but tattooing remains an aura, floating around, and i’ll surely come back to it someday. while i’m not holding my buzzing machine, i’m using digestion time to think and write about my experiences with tattooing - as an artistic medium, but also as a technology of care for maginalised bodies, as a communication device, as a soup of symbols and matter, a research, a poem.
the gallery below doesn’t follow chronological order. i’m open to designing custom tattoos (to be inked by someone else), if you’re interested feel free to contact me with a description of your project
